Four-Way shuttle three-dimensional warehouse

The four-way shuttle system is an intelligent handling equipment that combines lateral movement with vertical pallet lifts to automate storage, retrieval, and transportation tasks. 

 

Guided by the instructions from the Warehouse Management System (WMS) or Warehouse Control System (WCS), the radio shuttle car can autonomously pick up and deliver pallets to designated locations within the racks, enabling seamless automated storage and retrieval of goods in the warehouse.

 

The four-way shuttle three-dimensional warehouse is composed of intensive shelves, four-way shuttles, elevators, conveyor lines, WMS, WCS, and RCS. The shuttles flexibly travel forward, backward, left, and right in the shelves to realize cargo picking and transportation, and four-way shuttles at the same time. The truck warehouse can also implement first-in-first-out (FIFO) and first-in-last-out (FILO), which is suitable for both low-traffic, high-density storage and high-traffic, high-density storage. The four-way vehicle three-dimensional warehouse has the advantages of flexibility, intelligent scheduling, and the four-way vehicle can reach any position of the warehouse without space restrictions. The product is highly intelligently designed and can automatically handle and transport, automatically store and retrieve goods, and automatically change lanes and layers.

Four-Way Shuttle Warehouse Storage and Picking System

 

Working principle


Four-way shuttles generally have two sets of gear trains, one of which is responsible for traveling in the X direction and the other is responsible for traveling in the Y direction. The car runs on the track and when it encounters a turn, it changes the wheel train. Therefore, the orientation of the cargo unit is constant throughout the operation time.
If the car needs to change layers, it is mostly done through a lift outside the tunnel. After the car automatically drives into the lift, the lift lifts to the required floor to complete the floor change.
The biggest feature of the four-way shuttle is that each vehicle can reach every cargo space in the warehouse. Therefore, theoretically, if there are no entry and exit capacity requirements, a warehouse can arrange one trolley to complete the entry and exit operations of the entire warehouse. This has great advantages for systems with low frequency of incoming and outgoing warehouses.
As a system, the four-way shuttle needs to form a complete system with the shelves (tracks), elevators, conveyor systems, communication systems, and charging systems to work. Of course, the software systems related to management, monitoring, scheduling, and control also need to be necessary.

 

In practical applications, the two operating modes of lifts


Operation with a truck and operation without a truck. When working without a truck, the elevator only lifts the cargo unit. When working with a truck, the trolley and the cargo enter the elevator at the same time during each operation. At this time, there is actually no need to change the level of the elevator.
Obviously, when lifting without a truck, each floor needs a cargo transfer workstation, which is a considerable cost. When operating with a truck, the system will be much simpler, and the end of each floor will also be much simpler, but the efficiency will also be low. A lot, that’s something to be aware of.
